Directors of Sorry to My Mother say they will release the movie soon after its official premiere to allow Malawians to watch it in the comfort of their homes.
This is a departure from the trend where the majority of local movies are not released on DVD for fear of piracy.

Making the announcement during a press briefing on Friday in Lilongwe, producer of the movie, Brazio Kanyong’o assured Malawians that the film will be on the market after its official premiere.
He said: “We are doing things differently because we want the local audience to access the movie soon after its premiere.
“The good thing is that we are going to auction the the movie’s DVD at the premiere. But currently, we are working on strategies on how best we can distribute the movie to beat piracy.”
Piracy is a major contributing factor to the slow development of the country’s creative industry where creative works are stolen, reproduced or shared illegally.
Kanyong’o urged Malawians to buy original art products and support the growth of the local film industry.
“We can’t run away from piracy because it is a global phenomenon which has been worsened by factors such as technology. But if Malawians can cultivate a culture of buying original things and desist from low quality pirated works, we can win the fight,” he said.
On his part, director of the movie, Alex Chilambe described it as one of the best products to hit the Malawi market.
He said the film features new and gifted actors and tackles one of the most relevant topics of everyday life.
Said Chilambe: “You can agree with me that some people who are enjoying life today abandoned or forgot their mothers who struggled to raise them up in the village.
“Some have done so after being influenced by love charms and concoctions cast on them while others are simply ungrateful and embroiled in social extravagance. This film conveys one of the greatest lessons of life and it’s a must-watch film.”
Produced by the Magic Promotions and Positive Arts, the movie premieres at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe on April 29. The event will start from 6pm.
Traditional musician Ben Mankhamba and gospel musician Rudo Chakwera will spice up the event. On her part, Chakwera said it was important to honour mothers, hence the movie is a powerful weapon to address some of the issues that affect them.
