Smallholder Farmers fighting against economic challenges in Dedza

Some smallholder farmers in Dedza district have hailed interventions initiated by United Purpose-UP in the district which seek to empower rural livelihoods economically and on food security.

United Purpose-UP through the Sustainable Production, Economic growth, Accountability and Resilience Programme (SPEAR) project has since managed to help 13 thousand farmers with pass-on pig-farming programs in 50 villages.

It has also constructed 18 schemes and 17 community grain banks since 2017, according to the organization’s Food Security and Resilient Coordinator Burton Mwale.

One of the beneficiaries, Ellen Mikundi from Chingondo village, group village headman Ng’ombe, Traditional Authority T/A Kaphuka said through the project, she has managed to construct a decent house.
