KENYA – A family in Ibacho village, Nyaribari Masaba in Kisii County has been left homeless after their houses were torched Monday night.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Billiah Kwamboka said her husband torched houses at their home before attempting to take his own life.
“We took a loan due to the biting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, we were not able to service the loan as per the agreement,” a distraught Kwamboka said.
Following this the family lost their parcel of land pushing their patriarch into drug addiction. The family had used the land certificate as collateral for the loan.
“My husband was a teacher before COVID-19 struck. We had planned to construct classrooms for a private school that we had set up in the area,” she added.
On the fateful day, the man set houses at the home on fire before digging a grave in one of the houses.
The family has appealed for help from well-wishers, with the man taken to Keroka Police Station over the bizarre turn of events.
