The Sheriffs of Malawi this morning stormed Kasungu District Council for a seizure operation over non-payment of a debt the council owes a supplier since 2015.
Lawyer representing the claimant, McLean Mkandawire of MN Patrick Associates, says the council owes his client, New NK General Suppliers about K16.5 Million kwacha from the supplies he made between 2015 and 2018.
He said the sheriffs are executing a seizure order after the High Court ruled in favor of his claimant in default judgment on August 22, 2022.
But, Kasungu District Commissioner, James Kanyangalazi, argues the council did not get any summon on the case except the default judgement last Friday.
He, however, said the council is doing everything possible to ensure the sheriffs get the money to settle the debt by the end of business today.
