A search and rescue team comprising personnel from the Malawi Defence Force, the Malawi Police Service, and the Malawi Red Cross Society has arrived in the Lower Shire districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) deployed the team following a warning by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services that Cyclone Gombe is expected to induce heavy rains that might trigger the occurrence of flash floods in most parts of the southern region from Saturday, 12th March to Sunday the 13th.
The team is expected to work with search and rescue teams at district levels to provide life-saving interventions in all districts at risk of being affected by the cyclone.
