17 learners from at Namatubi Primary School are battling for their lives at Chitipa District Hospital after a school block collapsed on them.

Head teacher of the school, Spider Sichali has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the incident happened during break time.

According to Sichali, the affected students are from standards 2 and 4.

Chitipa District Education Manager Votie Nkuna Mboweni has attributed the incident to torrential rains being experienced in the district.
