Rights Groups Fight Over Demos To Call For Referendum Or Chakwera’s Resignation

A fight has erupted between two human rights groups namely; Forum for Democracy and Rights Defenders and Human Rights Ambassadors over planned demonstrations aimed at calling for President Lazarus Chakwera’s resignation or call for a national referendum slated today in Mangochi.

Forum for Democracy and Rights Defenders has faulted Rights Ambassadors sayin g the demonstration have come during a time when Malawi is fighting economic hardships as such, Malawians need patience before rushing to the streets.

The forum’s chairperson Shaibu Abdul Rahman Ajassie has said demonstrations are misplaced and misguided and not welcome.

Commenting on the matter, Co-Chairperson of the Human Rights Ambassadors Kingsley Mpaso, said they have a right to express their opinion as such, they will go on with demonstrations today.

Mpaso added that they have already been cleared by authorities for tomorrows demonstrations and nothing will stop them.
