A 26-year-old rider, David Banda has died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a pedestrian on June 13, 2023 along Jenda-Embangweni road around Joel Phiri’s shop in Mzimba.

The accident which involved an unregistered motorcycle which was being ridden by Banda(now deceased) from the direction of Jenda heading towards Embangweni with a pillion passenger on board.

Upon arrival at the said shop, Banda lost control of the motorcycle due to overspeeding and swerved to the offside of the road where he hit John Kathumba who was walking heading the same direction.

Following the impact, the rider sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Jenda Rural Health Centre.

The pedestrian sustained fractured right leg whilst the pillion passenger had some bruises on his face and left leg.

Meanwhile police at Jenda are appealing to the riders to always adhere to road safety measures such as observing speed limits and wearing of crush helmets in order to avoid such accidents from happening.
