Revised Land Laws to be Implemented with Care in 2022: Ministry of Lands

The Ministry of Lands has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive land audit before applying the revised land laws in 2022.

The new laws will be applied to demolish buildings in poor states in cities across the country.

According to Deputy Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, the government will reach out to land owners and consult with them to ensure that they comply with the new laws.

Otherwise, their buildings may be destroyed.

Anglican Bishop for Southern Diocese, Bishop Alinafe Kalemba, has urged officials in the ministry to take steps to end corruption cases involving doubtful reports of giving lands to foreigners.

The late President Bingu wa Mutharika had initiated the “red star campaign” which aimed at demolishing substandard buildings in the cities.

However, this campaign was taken to court by some property owners.
