National Oil Company of Malawi (Nocma) board of directors has appointed director of operations Micklas Reuben as the State petroleum importer’s deputy chief executive officer.

An internal memo to Nocma employees signed by chief executive officer Clement Kanyama that The Nation has seen, shows that Reuben’s new role is with effect from December 8 2023.

Following his appointment, Reuben will be responsible for projects and plant maintenance, procurement and disposal of assets, security, health, safety, environment and quality assurance.

Reuben: I will
work diligently

However, the memo said despite the appointment, Reuben will continue discharging the functions of director of operations until further guidance from the board.

Reacting to the appointment yesterday, Reuben thanked Nocma board for the appointment which he said demonstrates trust that he could be part of the parastatal’s winning team.

“My promise to the board is that I will continue to work diligently with the CEO, members of senior management, stakeholders and the entire Nocma family to contribute meaningfully towards delivery of a world class service to the public,” he said.

The position of deputy CEO fell vacant after the departure of Helen Buluma in November 2022.
