Ten trucks form Zimbabwe carrying relief maize meal for CycloneFreddy survivors have arrived through Mwanza border.

The trucks, whose total tonnage is not yet established are heading for Blantyre. “They will be under police escort from Mwanza border to Blantyre,” confirmed Mwanza police public relations officer Edwin Kaunda Tuesday afternoon.

According to Zimbabwe Independent, a leading business weekly, President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday said during a resource mobilisation meeting that his government through ZimAid has donated 30 000 bags of maize meal weighing 10 kilograms each.

The arrival of these trucks is a welcome relief to the people of Malawi, who have been grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy, which caused widespread destruction and displacement.

The government of Malawi and various humanitarian organizations have been working tirelessly to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster, and this donation from Zimbabwe will go a long way in supporting their efforts.
