Lilongwe Fitness Industry has organised a Reggae Dance Aerobics event to raise funds for celebrated photojournalist Ras Peter Kansengwa who is unwell.
The event is slated for November 5 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
In an interview, organising committee team leader Ishmael Gringer Makawa said the initiative comes after a request from Kansegwa.
“Kansengwa has been ill for almost a year now. He is experiencing swelling of legs and eye problems. As a player in the fitness industry, we missed his presence as he always avails himself to almost every fitness activity in town. Then we discovered that he has been sick. We asked him what we can do for him and he said medical bills; hence, this fundraising event,” he said.
Makawa said Kansengwa has been key in helping promote tourism through capturing and posting amazing pictures of the country’s beauty.
“We are targeting to raise K2.5 million. We will engage a reggae artist to complement the aerobics,” he said.
Musician Annie Matumbi, who visited Kansengwa, also urged fans to support the celebrated photographer.
“Ras Kansengwa is still receiving treatment. Let us show him love by helping him in any way we can,” he said.
In a separate interview, Kansegwa confirmed being ill and said the medication that he needs called Paclitaxel Injection IP is not available at the hospital, as such he buys from private pharmacies.
