Malawi Red Cross Society has disbursed K13.2 million to 332 households affected by Tropical Storm Gombe in Phalombe District to help them recover from their loss.
Speaking on Wednesday during the disbursement of the money at Mileme Primary School in Traditional Authority Jenala, Malawi Red Cross Society secretary general McBen Kaningodza said they want to help the people to get back to their feet.

“We are giving out K40 000 to each household to help them get basic needs and possibly buy materials to rebuild their homes,” he said.
Group village head Chimombo said the storm affected most households in the area.
“People lost foodstuffs and property. The money will help them get basic needs,” he said.
A beneficiary Tereza Lawira said she will use part of the money to build a house.
“My house collapsed during the disaster, so I will use part of the money to buy plastic sheets for a new one,” she said.
Malawi Red Cross Society is implementing a Building the Resilience of Communities Project in Phalombe and Zomba districts with funding from USaid.
The organisation also donated banana suckers to 2 200 farmers in the two districts
