One of the country’s media houses Rainbow television has rebranded to Malawi Wathu an online news website following its closure.
Rainbow Television which gained viewership following its programs like Katsukuluza had its license revoked by the Malawi Communications Regulatory authority (MACRA) over unpaid fees.
According to Macra, Rainbow Television had an outstanding balance of 10 million Kwacha of which the media house paid.
However, Macra did not give back the license to Rainbow instead offered that the media house should apply for a new license.
Yesterday, August 31, 2022, Rainbow Television closed its operations in the country.
Today, the Facebook page which was bearing the name of the media house announced that they have rebranded to Malawi Wathu which will focus on online media business only.
However, other stakeholders believe that the closure of Rainbow Television is a political motivated move.
Rainbow Television was rumored to be owned by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri leader and founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG).
