Today, the senior resident magistrate court in Mzimba has sentenced a 52 year old primary school teacher, Petros Mwamondwe to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 14 year-old standard four learner from the school he was teaching.

Senior resident magistrate, Godfrey Nyirenda while passing judgement said it is sad that a teacher who was supposed to protect the girl child decided to exploit her.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Aids Interfaith Association (MIAA) which is providing support to Judiciary for speedy hearing of such cases, said it hopes communities who attend the court sessions will learn that such acts have grave repercussions.
