Politicians urged to watch their tongues

Inkosi Ya Makosi Mmbelwa five has asked politicians to refrain from using words that divide the citizens of this country.

Mmbelwa made the call at Chilimampunga Ground in Lilongwe, Mtandile ,during the inaugural Unity Day celebrations.

“Let me say that we need to be careful about cultural commemorations individually because they have the potential to destroy peace. now it has become a competition to see which cultural ethnic is doing better, we have to be careful about this,” said Mmbelwa.

Meanwhile the chairman of the religious organization Public Affairs Committee (PAC) Pastor Patrick Thawale, said that this day should remind Malawians that unity is important because ‘we are all one nation’.

Thawale added that church leader will try to join hands with various officials to promote peace and unity.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, Members of various political parties, religious and cultural groups attended the event.

Umodzi Day is an approved national celebration day which is held in the second week of October every year.
