Garton Kamchezera, a political analyst from the University of Malawi, has voiced his strong opposition to the recent interdiction of Martha Chizuma as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

In a statement given to Nation Newspaper, Kamchezera described the interdiction as “an act of desperate, brazen impunity by corrupt networks fighting not only the ACB Director, but the whole idea that this country can fight the rot of corruption.”

According to Kamchezera, the Suspension and Performance Committee (SPC) lacks the authority to suspend the ACB Director.

The power to do so lies solely with the President, as stated in the Corrupt Practices Act.

He went on to describe the SPC’s attempt to interdict Chizuma as “invalid and of no effect.”

The political analyst also raised questions about the President’s position on the matter.

He stated that the President had previously declared his intention to keep Chizuma as the ACB Director.

Kamchezera posited that either the President is hypocritical or that corrupt networks are undermining the government.

In conclusion, Kamchezera called for the suspension to be ignored and for the President to take back control of the government from corrupt networks.
