Police Rescue Motorcycle Taxi Riders From Angry Mob

Police in Lilongwe have rescued two motorcycle taxi riders from the grip of an angry mob that wanted to set them ablaze over robbery allegations.

According to Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu, the two Naidu John and Benjamin Banda ply their trade at Area 36.

A few hours ago, they allegedly attempted to rob another motorcycle taxi rider of his bike at Chigwirizano Township before a mob descended on them.

“Locals there beat them heavily and ferried them to a place they called a slaughter site where they planned to burn them,” Chigalu said.

Some well-wishers are said to have informed Chinsapo Police Unit about the incident, prompting officers from the formation to come to the rescue of the two who had been heavily assaulted.

They were later taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment, in rags and soaked in blood.
