Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that one police officer is battling for his life after sustaining injuries during a fracas which erupted during pro-Chizuma demonstrations organized by Citizen Movement against Impunity and Corruption.
The fracas happened at old town in Area 3 where demonstrators started pelting stones at spectators along the M1 road and police officers who were providing security.
The law enforcers had to use teargas to calm down the situation.
Similar incident happened at the District Commissioner’s office where protesters pelted stones upon arrival forcing the law enforcers to fire teargas.
Organizers of the demonstrations have since apologized to the Malawi Police Service over the sad development.
However, the grouping blamed the police for escalating an already tense situation by firing teargas at protesters who had thronged the district commissioner’s office premises to deliver a petition.
