Police nab 6 for inciting violence in Lilongwe

At least six people have been arrested in Lilongwe for allegedly inciting violence at Kamphata Trading Center, along the Lilongwe-Dedza M1 road yesterday, January 5, 2023.

Lilongwe police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Hastings Chigalu confirmed the arrests.

According to Chigalu, people around the area went on rampage a truck carrying Affordable Input Programme (AIP) fertilizer was passing through the area to another destination within the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumbu.

According to the people, their area is receiving less AIP fertilizer comparing to other areas.

The angry people, then detained the vehicle and blocked the M1 road, some started petting stones to other vehicles and demanded money from motorists.

Police rushed to the place and calmed the situation with the help from other stakeholders, the people then released the truck.
