Police hunt for assailants linked to the murder of a chief in Chikwawa

Police in Chikwawa have launched a manhunt for assailants who brutally murdered a Group Village headman at Jombo.

Sergeant Dickson Matemba Public Relations Officer for Chikwawa Police Station  has identified the victim has been identified as 73-year-old Robert Laiton from Laiton Village, under Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District.

According to family members, Laiton left his home on June 15, 2023, to attend a meeting aimed at identifying a suitable location for drilling a community borehole within the village. However, he did not return until the following day when he was discovered lifeless, lying in a pool of blood.

Upon receiving the report, Nchalo Police CID personnel, accompanied by a medical practitioner from Nchalo Health Centre, promptly arrived at the crime scene.

After conducting a postmortem examination, it was revealed that severe head injuries were the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Police are currently urging anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits to come forward.
