The Zimbabwe Republic Police is under fire for allegedly unleashing dogs that brutally mulled one man’s genitals.
The incident happened when the ZRP Beatrice were on a manhunt to arrest four man accused of stock theft.
Blessing Mutambi (18), Tichaona Matemba (17), Prosper Mutini (25), and Matheus Nziramasanga (67) are being charged under Section 114(1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
It is alleged that the aforementioned accused persons stole cattle that belong to Moffat Mwan who is a farm manager at Koala.
Tamutswa Muzana who is a lawyer of the accused said one of the defendants is battling for his life following the incident.
It is very cruel and causing unbearable pain to the accused persons who are presumed to be innocent when dogs are set on them the first accused is actually nursing wounds on his genitals as his manhood was chewed by the dogs and he is suffering untold pain because of those who are actually supposed to be protecting him.
He further said that apart from unleashing dogs on the accused persons, the police went on to brutally assault the four guys before detaining them for more than 48hrs,-which is against the law.
My clients were treated inhumanely as dogs were set on them and they were severely beaten by rogue elements within the police force who have got not even an iota of respect for our constitution. In tandem with this unconstitutional tendency the accused persons were held by the police beyond the constitutionally permissible 48 hours. Our police force needs to be categorically told that they are only allowed to use constitutionally means in eradicating crime anything else makes them criminals
Last weekend, ZRP police were criticised following an incident that led to the tragic deaths of two revellers at Castle Tankard event.
