Tear gas was deployed by police in Mangochi to disperse demonstrators protesting the recent devaluation of the kwacha.

The lead organizer, Bon Kalindo, had already presented a petition to the district commissioner, Smart Gwedemula, prior to the unrest.

The situation escalated as demonstrators began rioting, throwing stones at police vehicles and nearby objects.

The clash between protesters and law enforcement adds tension to the ongoing demonstrations in Mangochi.
