Police in Rumphi District have urged sex workers to report any form of abuse they encounter in the course of their business.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with the sex workers at the boma, Rumphi Police Station HIV and Aids coordinator Sub Inspector Sulten Simwaka said police were ready to protect the sex workers from abuse.

She said sex workers should report when their clients beat them.
Simwaka also warned the sex workers against robbing their clients.
“Do not suffer in silence whenever you face abuse, but report to police for justice. You should also refrain from taking laws into your own hands,” she said.
Rumphi Sex Workers secretary Chrissy Moyo commended the law enforcers for engaging them on security issues.
She said they learned that sex workers have rights and that they can report abuse to relevant authorities.
“Some clients refuse to pay after offering our services while others beat us. We now know that we can report such abuses,” she said.
