Police Arrest 3 Criminals For Attacking MUBAS Student In Blantyre

Police in Limbe have arrested three criminals who last night attacked a student from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) along Masauko Chipembere Highway near Golden Peacock around 18:20 hours.

The student who is a 17-year-old David Musiwa was attacked along the way by five unknown criminals who were armed with panga knives. The criminals robbed him of his various valuable items worthy K400,000.00.

The matter was reported to police and upon receiving the complaint, police detectives who were on vehicle patrol followed the criminals and managed to arrest three of the five criminals who have been identified as Gift Banda 23, of Mbayani Village, T/A Kapeni in Blantyre, Victor Phiri, 21, of Kachule Village, T/A Makwangwala in Ntcheu and Geoffrey Stanely, 24, of Mlowola Village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba.

Police have since recovered some of the stolen items. Police investigations are underway to arrest the other two assailants and recover the remaining items.

In a related development, 13 alleged criminals have been arrested in Mulanje and Chikwawa in connection to attacks and robberies that have been happening in the districts.

In Mulanje, Police have arrested seven suspects while five were arrested in Chikwawa. The arrests follow joint intelligence driven operations conducted by the two formations and officers from South East Regional Headquarters.

The suspects will be taken to court soon to answer charges of robbery.
