Phalombe youths hone digital skills

MHub Malawi has trained 140 youths in Phalombe District in different digital skills under Digital Malawi Project aimed at equipping people with computer literacy and innovations.

In an interview on Wednesday, MHub technical manager Daniel Mvalo said they were impressed with the response from the youth.

“We have trained youths aged 15 and 35 in various digital skills, including end-user computing, web development and graphic designing which will help them in their day-to-day lives,” he said.

Mvalo said under the same project, they are conducting mass literacy activities to civic educate the elderly on how they can use mobile phones to access digital skills and prevent cyber cases.

In a separate interview, Phalombe district youth officer Halson Bulangeti said the training addressed digital illiteracy. He said and he believed the youth will use the skills to advance their careers.

“These skills will help our youths to advance various careers or use them to start businesses in information, communications and technology (ICT).

One of the participants, Yamikani Nyasulu, said the training equipped her with invaluable skills that will enable her to set up a graphic designing business.

“I encourage my fellow participants to use take the training seriously,” she said.

Group village head Tamani commended the organisation for conducting the free training, saying it will help people know how they can fight cyber-crimes such as theft of money through mobile money platforms.

“Just last week our colleague was robbed of K143 000 after he was tricked. We have learnt vital skills on how we can protect ourselves from being robbed,” he said.
