People of Karonga North Constituency have commended their member of Parliament (MP) Mungasulwa Mwambande for promoting transparency in the management of Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking on Monday during a meeting between Kilupula Youth Organisation and community leaders, Senior Chief Kilupula said the MP left the administration of CDF under the control of community development leaders led by two ward councillors.
Mwambande: I follow CDF guidelines
He said: “There are constituencies that are failing to develop due to misunderstandings between MPs and ward councillors over CDF.
“However, that is not the case in the area despite the fact that we have two ward councillors who belong to different political parties. They work as a team to equally allocate projects according to electorates’ needs.”
The chief also urged parents to send their children to school.
Kilupula Youth Organisation chairperson Moses Mangwela said 68 underprivileged girls and boys have benefited from the CDF bursary fund.
“We organised the meeting to share light moments with our community leaders and remind each other about the roles we are supposed to play to develop our area,” he said.
In an interview, Mwambande said the secret behind the successful implementation of the development fund is in following the guidelines which include community participation in identifying projects.
“Decentralisation means transfer of controlling powers from an individual to the masses. This is what my two ward councillors and I have done,” he said.
