Pedestrian dies in Mzimba road accident, driver in for causing death

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a cruising vehicle at Engalaweni in the district on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at around 1800 hours.

He has been identified as Agriton Mvula 28 years old. The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number BY 4452 Toyota Hilux Pickup which was being driven by Archie Moyo, 26 years of Chitapa Moyo Village, in Traditinal Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District.

Moyo was driving from the direction of Mnjiri heading Mzimba boma along the Mnjiri – Kavukula road.

Upon arrival at Engalaweni area, Moyo lost control of the motor vehicle and swerved to the extreme offside due to speed, hitting a pedestrian (Agriton Mvula) in the process who was heading same direction.

Following the impact, Mvula sustained head injuries.

He was rushed to Mzimba District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment. Mvula died due to severe head injuries.

Moyo has been placed in Cell and charged with the offences of causing death by reckless driving and failing to render assistance to the victim.

He will appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against him.

Police in the district is advising drivers to observe speed limit to avoid such accidents.
