Lilongwe Magistrate court has ordered a 40- year- old, World Alive Pastor, Blessings Katuma to 20 years in jail for defiling, impregnating and procuring abortion for a 15-year-old girl.

According to the public prosecutor in the case, Katuma was in a secret love affair with the girl and started having sexual encounters in September 2021.

In December 2021, the girl was found Pregnant and the convict advised the girl to abort pregnancy, saying he could not take care of the pregnancy because he already has a family and that it would tarnish his reputation as a pastor.

However, the girl did not do as per the pastor’s demands to terminate the pregnancy, she kept it for four months.

This development prompted the man of God to procure informal drugs, and administered termination of the pregnancy in March, 2022.

The girl ended up suffering health complications and was admitted to Mitundu Rural Community Hospital for treatment. Then, police arrested the pastor.

Principal Resident Magistrate  agreed with the State and sentenced Katuma to 20 years imprisonment.

Blessings Katuma comes from Milonde Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba District.
