A-24-year-old passenger identified as Lywell Nyirenda, has died after a motor vehicle he was travelling in got involved in a road accident that occurred at Mponela Trade Centre in Dowa District last night.

Mponela Police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, has confirmed about the tragedy which took place at Nkhathwe Village along Mponela – Ntchisi Road around 19 hours .

He says at the time, an lsuzu ELF motor vehicle registration number NS 7727 two tonne pick up which was being driven by Ezara Khazani, 25 was coming from the direction of Ntchisi heading towards Mponela Trade Centre with seven passengers on board who had sat on top of sack bags containing second hand clothes and shoes.

According to Msadala, upon arrival at the said place the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to overspeeding and suddenly hit an Ox – cart which was being controlled by Chifundo Chibwe,18 and was also heading towards the same direction.

Due to the impact, Nyirenda fell down from the moving vehicle where he sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mponela Rural Hospital. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.
