Passenger Dies, Motorcyclist Injured Following Crash At Taifa Market In Mzuzu

A motorcycle passenger has died after the motorcycle she was riding on was hit by a vehicle at Taifa market in Mzuzu Saturday morning.

The deceased identified as Meekness Simbeye was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzuzu central hospital due to severe head injuries.

According to Mzuzu Police Publicist Sub Inspector Augustus Nkhwazi, Hezekiah Chipeta driver of the vehicle was driving from the direction of St. John Hospital heading Mpico house.

He said upon arrival at Taifa market, the driver lost control of the vehicle and invaded the right lane causing a head on collision with the motorcycle operated by Emmanuel Singini.

Simbeye sustained severe head injuries while Singini sustained fractures on both legs and bruises on his head and is receiving treatment at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

Chipeta has since been arrested and he wiil soon dragged to court to answer charges relate to reckless driving.
