Kasungu, June 15, Mana: Member of Parliament for Kasungu North Constituency, Mike Bango mesmerized the crowd which gathered to witness the elevation ceremony of Traditional Authority (TA) Njombwa to Senior Chief.
The ceremony had Group Village Heads Chikwa from Bango’s constituency and Suza being installed as Sub TAs.
Bango who became a household name when he worked as a sports reporter and football commentator, invoked his commentary skills when he took the microphone to make a brief speech by mimicking a football commentary.
He mimicked commentary to summarize the event including narrating requests from chiefs to government which led the crowd to splash money in approval of his oration skills.
After his performance he said he wanted to support Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) for their activities at Civo Stadium on June 25, 2022.
“I have been given money here, but I have decided to donate this money to Chewa Heritage Foundation,” Bango told the gathering.
The Youthful Legislator mobilized more funds from fellow members of parliament, chiefs and other government officials taking the amount K300, 000.
Spokesperson for CHEFO, Jimmy Chikuni said his organization was much appreciative of the development especially that there are people who felt they could do something to assist.
“There will be a lot of activities that will require money so it is really good news that K300, 000 was raised,” he said.
The aim of organizing the event dubbed ‘Mkumano wa a Chewa’ is to raise money for Chewas annual festival called Kulamba which will take place on August 27, 2022 at Mkaika in Zambia.
