Parents, guardians urged to take full responsibility of their children

Police in Nkhata Bay have urged parents and guardians to always be careful with the places where their children are playing especially in this rainy season to prevent accidents, following the drowning of a 4 year old girl in a rubbish pit in the district.

Nkhata-Bay police spokesperson, Sergeant Kondwani James has said the girl drowned in a rubbish pit filled with rain water on January 1, 2023 at Chifira in Chifenthe.

According to James, the little girl drowned while playing with her friends beside their neighbor’s house.

James said she was not seen going back home until later in the evening when it was discovered that she drowned in the said rubbish pit where she accidentally fell into when playing.

Chintheche Rural Hospital has since confirmed that the girl died due to suffocation.
