Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has asked faith leaders in the Central Region to advance positive messages about polio and Covid-19 vaccines.

PAC board chairperson Father Patrick Thawale made the call yesterday in Mponela, Dowa during the opening of the regional interfaith meeting on polio immunisation sensitisation for the faith community.

He said: “We want to give faith leaders the right information about polio and Covid-19 so that they disseminate information which is factual

“In the end, we want congregants to see the need to get vaccinated against polio and Covid-19.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Unicef social behaviour change consultant Berhanu Abebe said the meeting will create awareness among religious leaders as well as their followers on the importance of taking polio and Covid-19 vaccine. 

Malawi Interfaith Aids Association executive director Pilira Ndaferankhande said the Ministry of Health in collaboration with other partners have developed the polio advocacy, social mobilisation and communication strategy as part of the emergency plan to tackle the outbreak.

One of the participants, Bishop Moffat Litchapa of Zion Church, who is also chairperson of Ntcheu District Interfaith Aids Committee, commended PAC for the meeting.
