Unemployed teachers have petitioned parliament, asking the August House to push government to recruit them in the 2024 -25 financial year.
The teachers that are petition Parliament are the ones who were left out when government recruited 2,681 of their colleagues last month.
Willard Jonazi, a representative of the unemployed teachers said that the exercise left out many unemployed teachers, some of them have been at home for over five years.
He added that they are asking parliament push for their recruitment.There are over 20,000 unemployed teachers out there. Government promised to recruit over 6,000 in the current budget but ended up recruiting just over 2,500.
Jonazi also said that the government has promised to that in 2024-25 national budget to recruit over 10,000 out .Their want the government to fulfill this promise and parliament should help them to recruit the process.
In his last words Jonazi asked the government through the Ministry of Education Committee of parliament to make the resource available to make sure that at least the 10,000 out of the 20,000 are recruited as their wait for efforts to recruit the rest .
Ephraim Nayeja Vice Chairperson for the Education Committee of Parliament said the committee will deliberate the petition once they get it from the clerk where it had been submitted.
The Ministry of Education last month recruited 2,681 teachers and promoted 2,259 others to grades TJ and 3,997 teachers to grade TH.
