Opposition MPs walk out of Parliament

Opposition Members of Parliament have walked out of the house following disagreements over the safety of Malawians in the wake of the alleged abduction of activist Sylvester Namiwa.

Ned Phoya speaking on behalf of the United Democratic Front said they find it disheartening that government appears not to be concerned with the state of insecurity which has also been triggered by a spate of anti-government demonstrations recently.

On his part, Yeremiah Chihana, from AFORD has said they want government to beyond just making assurances of security saying that people need to see the actual state of security materialize.

Chihana has also said such government needs to appreciate that such a situation has lowered business operations of people in the country.
