Ombudsman yet to challenge an injunction on Kachaje’s appointment

It has transpired that the Office of the Ombudsman is yet to challenge an injunction obtained by Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) on the appointment of Henry Kachaje.

MERA obtained an injunction restraining Ombudsman Grace Malera from releasing findings of an investigation into the recruitment of Kachaje late last year.

The injunction was served to Malera 10 minutes into the releasing of the report.

Speaking in an interview with the press Malera said preparations to file the appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal are underway and within the prescribed timeframe.

The investigation followed a complaint the Office received on allegations that Kachaje was appointed without the necessary qualifications.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has recommended the dissolution of MERA Board of Directors “on grounds of incompetence”.
