Nyondo not a free agent—FAM

TNM Super League outfit Dedza Dynamos FC have warned Mighty Mukuru Wanderers that their striker Clement Nyondo is not a free agent.

The development comes after the player’s manager Paul Nyirenda confirmed that the 2023 TNM Super League Golden Boot winner has signed a contract with the Nomads on the pretext that his contract with Dezda expires this Monday, February 5 2024.

Howver, Dedza chief executive officer Gaston Kamkosi in an interview yesterday said although Nyondo is transfer-listed, he has a running contract up to 2025.

He said: “Nyondo renewed his deal in August 2023. But the he has indicated that he doesn’t want to stay and we have agreed to let him go. But any club interested in him must be prepared to pay the transfer fee. He is not a free agent.”

Kamkosi confirmed that there have been negotiations with interested clubs and they have pegged him at K15 million.

Jangale: Nyondo is contracted to Dedza

“It’s indeed true. We offered to sell the player at a transfer fee of K15 million to one of these clubs.

“But we are open to negotiations as you know that the transfer fee also depends on the club interested in the player.”

FAM club licencing and players’ status manager Casper Jangale in an interview yesterday also confirmed that Nyondo has a running contract.

“According to our records, Nyondo is contracted to Dedza for 2024 and 2025 season. His contract will expire on December 31 2025.”

Jangale said they  communicated this to Nyirenda who contacted FAM on the status of his player.

He said: “Mr Nyirenda contacted us on the player’s status. He claimed that his player’s contract was expiring in February 2024.

“But he also admitted that his player signed some documents and was paid some money in August 2023, but claimed he was not aware that he was renewing the contract.

“Now, the question we asked him is what was the player thinking he was signing or the money was for if he claims he did not know he was renewing his contract?”

Nyirenda yesterday said he only has a contract which his player signed in 2021 when he joined Dedza from Karonga United.

He said: “I am not aware that he signed a contract extension. But the player confirmed having received the money.”

On the contract with Wanderers which Jangale said is invalid, Nyirenda said they will engage the clubs on the way forward.

Wanderers acting chief executive officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira was yesterday not available for comment.

Apart from Wanderers, Nyondo was also linked with Silver Strikers, Singida Fountain Gate of Tanzania and Kabwe FC of Zambia.
