A 49-year-old nurse and midwife technician at Kasinje Health Center in Ntcheu district has died after consuming poison in circumstances police suspect was suicide.

Ntcheu Police Spokesperson Jacob Khembo has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Khembo, the deceased, Moses Chimalizeni, who was earlier summoned by police on allegations that he had defiled a 15-year-old pregnant girl at the health facility, was found unconscious by the roadside.

He died in hospital.

Postmortem at Ntcheu District Hospital has revealed that death was due to poisoning.

Chimalizeni hailed from Mambala village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in the district.
