The TNM Super League match between  Mukuru Wanderers and Blue Eagles on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre  grossed K12.39 million in gate revenue.

This is the second highest gate revenue after the K18.9 million realised during the recent encounter between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers at the same venue.

The figure  has slightly surpassed the K12.35 million grossed in the Blantyre derby between the Nomads and Bullets.

It was also the highest revenue in a match involving the Nomads  this season.

The development comes days after the Blantyre Magistrate’s Court convicted and fined six people arrested for theft of about K440 000 during a match between Wanderers and Sable Farming at the same venue on April 16.

Wanderers’ head of commercialisation Clement Stambuli yesterday attributed the increased revenue to improvements in gate management  and club supporters’ change of attitude.

“Following our recent experience, we and those entrusted with gate management, have been  careful as regards to being accountable and transparent. We are happy that after the conviction in the theft case, everyone is working towards advancing the needs of the club,” he said.

“Wanderers supporters are also getting organised and appreciating their role after a lot of civic education among ourselves. Previously, supporters watched our games for free after painting themselves in our colours, but now they are paying at the gates. We are going through a new phase and we are happy.”

Super League of Malawi  treasurer Malinda Chinyama said they were happy that Kamuzu Stadium is nowproducing more gate collections and he applauded Wanderers for being in control as hosts.

He said: “Previously, it was hard to gross more than K9 million from a match involving Wanderers  except.

“But the latest development shows that Wanderers are working hard to help their team grow financially.”

Meanwhile, the other match between Bullets and Waka Waka Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday grossed K10.8 million.

 The two teams and ground owners each got  K2.02 million.
