Defence Lawyers in a case in which former Minister of Energy Newton Kambala and two others are answering charges of political interference in the award of fuel importation contracts by National Oil Company of Malawi have objected the use of audio recording evidence by Nocma Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hellen Buluma.

Defence Lawyer Wapona Kita told the court that they objected to the use of the audio recording evidence because it was made without permission or knowledge of the accused persons.

Buluma told the court that she recorded the conversation between herself and Kambala, former Chief Presidential Advisor on Strategy Chris Chaima Banda, and Alliance for Democracy President Enock Chihana at different places of meeting.

Justice Patrick Chirwa sitting as Chief Resident Magistrate has since adjourned the matter to Friday where the court will either make a ruling on the objection or ask the defence to make more submissions.
