With two weeks to go before end of semester exams, faceofmalawi can confirm that 93 students out of 100 needy at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) will not be able to write end of semester exams due to school fees issues.
This has been confirmed by President of Students at Luanar’s NRC campus Hastings B. Mapundi.
He said this is coming at a time when 150 students already reserved their places last semester due to the same problem and the mentioned 93 will add to that number making it 243 in total.
“As students union we are worried and concerned with the development and we are calling upon all well wishers to come in the rescue of our fellow students,” Mapundi said.
He highlighted that as one way of helping their fellow students, they organised a fundraising event in collaboration with the school’s Alumni association targeting a total amount of twenty one million kwacha ( K21,000,000) for the 100 students unfortunately only fees enough for seven ( 7 students) was raised from the fundraising leaving the remaining 93 in danger of going back home.
“We really need intervention from stakeholders as soon as possible otherwise its not looking good,” he added.
School fees per semester at Luanar is K210,000 and among the 93, there are others who managed to pay some part of the fees but others didn’t manage to pay any amount.
