Nkhotakota District Council needs 800 million US Dollars to boos country’s economy

Nkhotakota District Council needs about eight hundred million United States Dollars to construct an industrial and a tourism park in boosting the country’s economy.

Authorities from the council outlined the ambitions when they met the Public Accounts Committee to scrutinize the Auditor General’s Report on the Accounts of the City and District Councils for the Years Ended June, 2019 and 2020.

Nkhotakota District Commissioner Ben Matengeni Tono, said the council plans to establish mega farms and construct a seventy eight-room hotel with a harbor to boost tourism activities in the district.

Matengeni however was quick to disclose that the council will issue municipal bonds to raise the capital which is about eight hundred billion kwacha.

Meanwhile Mark Botomani Chairperson for Public Accounts committee of parliament has commended the council for its plans aimed at contributing to the country’s forex basket.
