NKhono urges govt to work hand in hand with agriculture experts in foiling forthcoming hunger

An agriculture policy analyst has tipped government to court companies with expertise in irrigation farming to work together in producing various crops so as to avert the looming hunger.

This year, Malawi is feared to experience the worst food shortage in recent years following poor implementation of affordable inputs program, the washing away of crops due to cyclone Freddy and drought in some parts of the northern region.

With this, an agriculture policy analyst Tamani Nkhono says if authorities continue with their casual approach in managing after-maths of crises, Malawi is likely to experience one of the worst food shortages.

However, Nkhono has said that it is possible to remedy the situation by among others encourage farmers to do winter cropping as well as engage companies that have vast experience in irrigation farming to assist government in producing food crops.
