Nissan Malawi on Saturday donated medical supplies worth K7 million to Limbe Health Centre in response to the cholera outbreak.

The supplies included oral rehydration salts, soap, buckets, solar lamps, gloves and chlorine.

Nissan Malawi systems manager Robin McGregor said health facilities are in need of medical supplies to help them in curbing the rising cholera cases.

“We are committed to working with the government in the fight against cholera, which has claimed the lives of more than 1 500 people since the disease was discovered in April last year,” he said.

Limbe Health Centre facility in-charge Dorah Mwafulirwa said despite cholera cases easing, they still have patients in health facilities.

She said: “For the whole month of February, the health centre has not registered any death due to cholera.

“We have put measures where we control the cases from community areas by engaging community and local leaders to bring patients to the hospital in time and it has helped to manage the cases when the situation has not worsened.” In his remarks, Malawi Red Cross community health coordinator Francis Liyati said they are continuing to lobby for funding from the government and other stakeholders.
