Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (Repssi) and Young Women Christian Association of Malawi have drilled 24 caregivers from Blantyre and Machinga districts.
Speaking on Saturday in Blantyre at the end of the training, Repssi country representative George Alfandika said they wanted to equip the caregivers to teach effectively.
“We want to enhance early learning among children of adolescent mothers, promote positive parenting, provide psychosocial support to adolescent mothers as well as financial support,” he said.
Alfandika said the caregivers are doing a commendable job and was hopeful that they will continue teaching although their project is phasing out this year.
Blantyre district social welfare officer Stephano Joseph commended the project, saying early years of life matter and children should get the best start in life to ensure proper growth and development.
One of the caregivers, Radson Asidi, urged fellow caregivers to implement what they learned during the training.
“We learned to make mearning materials using locally available resources,” he said.
The training was conducted under the Malawi Early Childhood Initiative for Children of Adolescent Mothers Project implemented in Machinga and Blantyre districts.
The two-year project is funded by Comic Relief to the tune of £300 000 (about K335 million).
