Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Citizen Impact Organisation and Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) have unveiled plans to construct a school block at Kaswiti Primary School in Mzimba.
The school, located in group village head Elton Chimaliro in Mzimba North, has six classrooms against 450 students, with Standard One and Three classes conducted under trees.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of construction works at the school, Citizen Impact Organisation executive director Chimwemwe Banda said they want to help children get quality education.

“We have been able to raise 40 percent of the K14 million budget for the project. We believe that children deserve to get quality education in line with the Sustainable Development Goal Number Four,” she said.
Teveta regional service centre manager (North) Joseph Chikopa said they will train young people in the area in vocational skills.
“We felt duty-bound as Teveta because this is an opportunity for us to impart bricklaying skills to young people at Kaswiti. We plan to train 20 young people in bricklaying who will help in constructing the classrooms,” he said.
The school’s head teacher Pius Tembo commended Citizen Impact Organisation and Teveta for the initiative.
“The new school block will help to reduce congestion,” he said.
