Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation has facilitated a mobile clinic in Senior Chief Wasambo in Karonga District to enable youths to access sexual and reproductive health services.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation programmes manager Gomezgani Mhango said they wanted to ensure that young people access family planning services to prevent unplanned pregnancies and contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

She said: “Our focus is to help the youth and adolescent mothers access sexual and reproductive health services within reach because the nearest health facilities are Nyungwe and Chilumba and people from the area spend about K5 000 to reach them.”

Mhango: We want to help youths

Speaking on behalf of Senior Chief Wasambo, the Reverend Harry Mhango commended the NGO for taking sexual reproductive health messages and services to youths in the area.

He said youths in the area indulge in sexual activities because they are close to the lake where a lot of economic activity happen.

Tilola Youth Club chairperson Gracious Wasambo urged the youth to utilise the opportunity and get family planning services to prevent unplanned pregnancies as well as contracting STIs.

Karonga district youth officer Lapken Liwago said outreach clinics have helped youths to prevent unplanned pregnancies and STIs.

With funding from Breuckman Foundation and German Government Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation Development, the NGO is implementing Wanangwa Wane Project in Traditional Authority (T/A) Wasambo in Karonga and T/A Mweniwenya in Chitipa District.
