Village Reach has distributed water, sanitation and hygiene (Wash) items to district hospitals in five of the districts affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy for use both at the facilities and in evacuation camps.
The items that included chlorine and water buckets were distributed to Phalombe, Mulanje, Chikwawa, Nsanje and Mangochi districts.

In an interview last week on the sidelines of the event, Village Reach country director Alinafe Kasiya said the organisation wants to avert waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the cyclone.
“Waterborne diseases are one of the challenges arising while people are staying in camps and are not able to access clean water,” he said.
Phalombe District acting director of health and social services Samuel Sibakwe said there was a huge need for the items in the district.
Mulanje District Hospital integrated diseases surveillance and response coordinator Masilina said Wash items will be critical in addressing waterborne diseases in the district.
