Miss Teen Malawi beauty pageant has been introduced to focus on youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, organisers have said.
In an interview, lead organiser of the event Chimwemwe Buleya said the contest is designed to identify young women in the country who epitomise the key qualities of leadership, talent, motivation and celebration of beauty, diversity and womanhood.
Ngugi: This beauty pageant is different
“This beauty pageant is different from other beauty pageants in the country because it involves teenagers only. This will be the first time that Malawi will host a teen beauty pageant,” she said.
Buleya said the pageant is different from adult contests as it deals with young adults that need to be moulded into the right direction.
“The contestants need to be 13 to 18 years old. They have to be in school, but there are no height or weight restrictions. The contestants should also get consent from their parents,” said Buleya.
She said the winner will represent Malawi at international competitions.
Buleya, who was Miss Malawi second princess in 2018, also organised Miss Zuri Africa Malawi in 2019 and was also involved in Miss Culture Malawi 2021.
